I got an email today from an exchange admin who wanted some help with message routing & had an email header that had about 15 hops.
He was lost with the tracking & was trying to work out the hops and delays involved in the routing manually.
The fact that he didn’t know about free tools to analyse the message headers prompted me to write about it. My favourite one is the message header analyzer provided from MXToolbox. It gives you a graphical view of the hops & delays, detailed a table and a snapshot with all the header values.
Just copy & paste the message header here, click Analyze Headers & let the magic happen

the delay of 56 seconds we can see here, who caused that?
The Hotmail or Google Server?

Not sure Thomas. It could be that the Google server was busy and it took few seconds for the data transmission to start.
