Since I have received a few emails from confused admins about where MCITP, MCSA & MCSE fit in regarding the way forward with Exchange 2013 certification, I will try to make it clearer in this article.
First things first, there is no more MCITP certifications for Exchange 2013. It has been replaced by MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert ) in Messaging. Everyone needs to write the two exams mentioned in the path for Exchange 2013 certification. Both exams are already available via Prometric.

- Exam 70-341: Core Solutions of Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, info here
- Exam 70-342: Advanced Solutions of Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, info here
If you already have an MCITP certification in any one of the following, you are eligible for the shorter, upgrade path to MCSE in Messaging.
- MCITP : Enterprise Messaging Administrator
- MCITP : Lync Server Administrator
- MCITP : SharePoint Administrator
- MCITP : Virtualization Administrator
- MCITP : Enterprise Desktop Administrator
In fact, if you have any one of the MCITP exam, you will have a new certification MCSA in Windows Server 2008 applied to your MCP profile automatically by Microsoft. You would have received an email as well about the same.
In short, if you have an MCITP in any of the following technologies listed above, you need to take the following exams for your MCSE in Messaging.
- Exam 417 Upgrading your skills to MCSA Windows Server 2012
- Exam 70-341: Core Solutions of Microsoft Exchange Server 2013
- Exam 70-342: Advanced Solutions of Microsoft Exchange Server 2013

If you are new to Microsoft certification, you need to take three exams to get your MCSA in Windows Server 2012 and then two Exchange 2013 exams to complete your MCSE in Messaging.

Hope this clears the confusion about Exchange 2013 certification.

This is horrible. It was much better when they were broken up by technology. If I want to just certify on Exchange, I should be able to

Hi, i´m now MCTS Exchange 2010.
I just finished Upgrade skill course för MCSA 2012.
If i take 70-417, and later 70-663 i will be MCITP Ex2010. Will i also recieve the MCSA 2012 if i take the exams in that order?
Best regards, Marius
